As I mentioned up top, it’s LGBT History Month. It goes without saying that we live in a world that is quite hostile to folks on the gender and sexuality spectrum. I love podcasting because in of itself, it is archival work. It is so important to preserve memory and provide outlets, especially for those whose community histories and personal stories have been disregarded. This curation is dedicated to those who are documenting queer history and those who are making it.
Finding Fire Island, Gay Summer Camp
This docu-series looks at both present day and history of some of the oldest queer communities in the United States. Also, while technically not branded content for the film Fire Island, Margaret Cho, Joel Kim Booster and Matt Rogers are featured. Hearing their connections to the island actually helped me better understand their motivations for making the film.
History is Gay, 0.17. Dip Me in Honey & Throw Me To the Lesbians: Queer Feminist Restaurant History
I remember listening to a podcast episode a couple of years ago about the importance of lesbian bars, but great to see that Dr. Alex Ketchum is documenting restaurants as well. As Dr. Ketchum explains, restaurants can be more inclusive in terms of ages allowed and providing a supportive environment for those that struggle with substance abuse.
Strictly Facts: A Guide to Caribbean History and Culture, Anti-LGBTQ+ Discrimination and Queer Activism in the Caribbean with Ryan Persadie
There is a common misperception that anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination is more pervasive throughout Caribbean, but not much understanding of the history (and perhaps a lack of introspection into our own communities). I found this conversation really insightful.

If you scroll through the Womanica feed until you hit June, you’ll come across the “Icons” series that they did for Pride. All Womanica episodes are snackable (<10 mins) and you learn a great deal! So I chose three to get you started :-)
