Talkin' Science 🔬
Upcoming #AudioForAction Live and other news.
Hello!
Can you believe we are more than halfway through June!? Time is truly flying. I’m excited to have scheduled one more #AudioForAction Live conversation before the end of the month, which you will learn more about below.
But before we get into that, I want to call your attention to a couple of things:
Drilled Media put out an article recently called “Climate Media’s Philanthropy Problem.” I highly recommend the read and also encourage you to check out the conversation I had with Jordan Gass-Poore’ and Andrea Learned about challenges and opportunities that climate and environmental podcasts face.
Editaudio is becoming a nonprofit! Editaudio’s founder and CEO Steph Colbourn was interviewed on #AudioForAction Live alongside Camille Laurente, co-founder and CEO of Hueman Group Media. If you can, support their GoFundMe campaign to help their nonprofit transition, and check out our conversation if you haven’t already!
This year, I am a judge for the Signal Awards! I’ve been judging the Anthem Awards for social impact for the past three years, so I’m excited to add judging for podcasts exclusively!
The Final Entry Deadline for the 5th Annual Signal Awards is next week!
Once a year, The Signal Awards Judging Academy listens across thousands of hours of podcasts to identify the strongest work shaping the medium. Submit your best work by Friday, June 26, and give your podcast the chance to be recognized among the year’s award-winning work.
🗓️ Wednesday, June 24

Wednesday, June 24th, from 2:00-2:45 pm ET / 11:00-11:45 am PT I will be in conversation with Dr. Zakiya Whatley about her science communication work in audio and live events.
Dr. Whatley is the founder of Upstream Solutions, where she works at the intersection of expertise and impact to help individuals and organizations close the gap between what they know and what the world can understand and use. Some may know her from co-hosting and co-creating the show Dope Labs or from hosting Breakthrough from the Boston Children’s Hospital.
If you are curious about using audio for science communication, you won’t want to miss this conversation!
We look forward to you joining us for this session! But if you can’t make it live, no problem. Lives are recorded and available for watching afterward. However, if you would like to ask questions—whether for the live or because you can’t attend—please submit in advance by commenting.
